The Aim to Play research team received a grant to create an app that would allow physical education teachers to generate custom lessons that meet P.E. standards and could comply with various class settings. These teachers would also need to be able to save and schedule lessons, as well as send the data that is collected as they use the app to their school administrators.

For the illustrations in this app there were two needs that had to be met. First, they needed to clearly communicate the exercises they’re meant to represent. And second, they needed to remain simple because each flow already had a variety of design elements taking up space. In the end, an elegant-version of stick figures were chosen, with curves and outlines that add visual interest.

The colors used in this project are bright playful while also drawing inspiration from more retro color palettes, which the clients found appealing.

In order to maximize legibility, the fonts used are modern, sans serif and always in colors that offer the highest contrast possible.

With much direct communication with our client we were able to create an app that works seamlessly in the coding and design-wise. On the back end, we were able to create a system that organizes a vast data pool of activities, location factors, standards and other data points. And on the front end we created designs that communicate clearly, share only digestible information and function as an overall clear experience.
