Melissa Kopplin had not updated her website for over 10 years and in post-COVID-19 landscape, she wanted to modernize her site and give it a new feel. I based this UI design off what she already had, but changed up the colors, fonts, and added in some simple animations. Overall, the site is extremely simple. It has only three pages; an introduction, an about page and a contact form.

I changed the colors to mainly black and white, and then featured photos of Melissa as the main pieces of visually heavy design. I wanted to focus on showcasing Melissa, visually through professional photographs and through well-written copy—which was supplied by her. I focused on using more modern, sans serif fonts which complement nicely to the handwritten messages which make up the headings throughout the site.
The handwriting adds a personal touch that makes the site feel and look more authentically individual.

And finally, I used aftereffects to create an animation that looks as though Melissa is writing her welcoming message on the home screen. This technique hooks the user’s eye and keeps them reading the homepage for a longer amount of time. In the end, the site remains authentically simple and to-the-point, while also sharing information in a more streamlined way with a modernized aesthetic.
